JC, Paul DeMone does seem pretty intelligent from other stuff I've read of his, but his P4 opinions seem to be based on a combination of random speculation from limited information and unalloyed reverence for the P6 architects. If Intel is flogging some feature or other there, it must be good, seems to be the gist of it all.

He also got rather snippy and rude with another local chip architect, but that's another story.

Cheers, Dan.

JC,

<What Paul said is his honest opinion. >

I never doubted that.

<He's a lot smarter than you think; he's just perhaps making a really bad call here.>

I haven't questioned his smarts either. I was just pointing that his expertise may be in a different area.

<I suspect that you might agree with that if you read his non-P4 articles at realworldtech.com.>

Let me know the next time you see a good one, I will check it out.

< And, like you, he has done / does do semi designs, I believe. :) >

By the way, there is a huge difference between being a designer and an architect. One requires detailed digital skills and the other requires more mathematical skills and an ability to see larger picture and do some out of the box thinking.

<He is certainly not a mindless Intel drone. >

Not sure if anyone has said he is. i certainly didn't!

<He is, on the contrary, the most aggressive technical source out there for reasons why DRDRAM and Merced may have been bad ideas.>

Like I said there may be things that he is good at. And, I am sure he will learn a few things when he realizes ow badly off he was about P4.
