votes are faceless
The votes are the most dangerous of all beasts in the circus. As soon as the first is counted, it begins to draw a noose, tighter and tighter as one vote after another gets noted, discussed, and assigned. The vote needs no face, because it's countenance is too horrible to look at even though it's image has been painted on the outside of the circus tent proclaiming it the supreme attraction. Instead it can only be glimpsed one little ballot at a time, each ballot tugging and pulling the noose. Once counted the ballots are no more powerful than the pack of cards that disturb a wonderland slumber.
