AFTER THE BELL - Applied Materials rises
Wednesday November 15, 5:46 pm Eastern Time

NEW YORK, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Shares of Applied Materials Inc.
(NasdaqNM:AMAT - news) rose in extended hours after the
world's No. 1 computer-chip equipment maker posted
better-than-expected quarterly profits.

Applied Materials traded after the bell on the Instinet electronic
brokerage system at $47, before falling back to $44-1/4. The
stock pared gains after the chief financial officer forecast fiscal
first quarter earnings and sales in a conference call. Applied
Materials gained $1-5/16 during the standard trading day.

Chip equipment maker Novellus Systems Inc. (NasdaqNM:NVLS
- news) also rallied after-hours, following Applied Materials profit
announcement, rising to $37 on Instinet, from a close of
$34-11/16.

In other after-hours activity, AT&T (NYSE:T - news) edged
slightly higher after the telephone and cable television company
said it would spin off the television programming unit Liberty
Media Group (NYSE:LMGa - news) to reduce regulatory
concerns over its cable television holdings.

AT&T last traded on Instinet at $20-3/4, up from a regular close
of $20-5/8. Liberty Media gained $1-1/4 to $16-3/4 on Instinet
after the bell.
