Have dinner in Old Town Santa Fe. You'll love it.

I have been to Santa Fe several times, and Taos a couple of times. The drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe is tedious and ugly. I am not sure if it will be worse or better for a Southwesterner. The drive from Santa Fe to Taos is frequently interesting, and sometimes awe inspiring, as when one is climbing the mountains and a deep gorge is visible in the distance.

Santa Fe is a nice enough town, although a lot depends on where you are. Personally, I think it is not worth the trouble, and find Annapolis far superior. Taos is somewhat prettier, actually, mainly because it is higher in the mountains and approaching southern Colorado (about 100 miles away). It is also more thoroughly a tourist town. Again, I am not at all sure it is worth the trouble, but there are those who love it. I liked the drive better than the town, though........

Take the high road to Taos from Santa Fe, for sure!!

Longer, and a little more treacherous, but worth it. Go by Chimayo if you can on the way. It's sort of on the way, and the drive into Chimayo is incredible.

PS, I leave for Santa Fe next Wednesday for the weekend.
