>>"If a full state recount + overseas shows Bush the winner, he will be our president and I will respect that. I think the only real reason Republicans are against this simple, legal course of action is because they expect to lose."<<

I am against a recount of democratic strongholds that statistically has shown to increase the number of votes & statistically will increase the probability that the Democrats, who received the vast majority of votes in these counties, will end up with a disproportionate number of "new, yet subjectively divined" votes. If the Democrats were genuinely interested in divining the "will of the people", by subjectively interpreting the 'intent' of the voter on a ballot designed for a machine count, they would have asked for a statewide recount up front. By intentionally selecting Democratic strongholds for a subjective attempt to divine the "will of the people", IMVHO they cannot possibly appear to be seeking a fair & equitable count in Florida unless you feel unfair statistical advantage for the party of your choice is fair & equitable.

As for your claim of, "simple, legal course of action", I beg to differ. The absolute rancor worldwide over this matter clearly indicates it is not 'simple'. The sheer number of lawyers & court cases proves that the question of it being legal is questionable. FWIW, the time to request a manual recount has closed for most, if not all Florida counties. The Daley/Gore campaign seems to want to circumvent that law (or was this a red herring since their lawyers already knew a complete state recount was in violation of the law, yet they could still attempt to appear to be offering a fair manual recount knowing it was not legally possible?).

Sorry, but that offer by Mr Gore had a funny smell to it. The words simple, fair or legal were not what came to mind after listening to his offer.
