Hey Sarkie, I don't like the court system any more than you do. But you know what, believe it or not, the same group of people that gave us the Congress and the Presidency also gave us the Judiciary(Article III). To be sure, many people hate the Court system, but you know what? If it wasn't for the role that they will play in this, we would be just like those 3rd world countries where Sergeants and Colonels take over whenever there is any divisiveness.

We all knew that ultimately this was going to go through the court system, so let it play out.

Oh, Jeest. Yet another person who is SHOCKED, SHOCKED by politics in action. Turn off your TV, put your head under your wing, and forget about it. Let the grownups work it out.

Just for your information, both candidates have received BILLIONS of dollars in support for their campaigns. If either of them says, "well, I'll be a gentleman and give up even though it's not clear whether or not I can win," will that person ever have a future in politics again? What about his party?

The stakes in this race are ENORMOUS. Ask Bill Gates who he would rather have win. Ask Bernie Schwartz, CEO of Loral. Ask Case, of AOL. And so on.

Grownups don't give up just because the going is tough.

"I, as an American, am
ashamed of my country."

My God, that's the LAST thing you should be. The incredibly profound genius of the Founders is manifest here. Don't you think they anticipated a situation exactly like this?:

The public, half of whom are already drugged with the apathy of ignorance combined with affluence, the rest fired by the demon of demagoguery. Political hacks sweeping the nursing homes, hospices and alleyways to try to defeat informed opinion. A virtual tie, and political low-lifes trying to steal votes on the count.

Yes they knew it ALL 200 years ago, and now WE know. That alone is a great benefit. But they also constructed a system of government where the idea of calling out the troops to settle it all won't even be considered, and the institutions will survive.

Are we thus lucky? Yes, of course. We've been consumed by the cancer of ignorance for half a century. But should we be proud? They gave us this system, and-at the end of the day-we have preserved it. May future generations also be able to say the same thing...

Oh, Sarkie~ Please don't be ashamed of America. Perhaps some of the people in it, but not America. One party to date has filed 16 lawsuits, the other party has filed 1 (one)...see www.opinionjournal.com for Nov 16, 2000.

Actually, one day, perhaps we can see just how many attorneys are/were actually down there in FL.

And none of us can afford for apathy to set in....if it does, we all loose.

Remember, in all the years since our country was founded, until radio was invented, we had no idea of who won for weeks... So think again how much the media is trying to manipulate us....and like fireflies, we are drawn to the spectacle.

SI is a wonderful community, I think. Gives us a chance to think and explore all options, and share those thoughts with folks who might be interested.

I am reminded of Elizabeth Kuebler Ross's book "Death and Dying", and the five stages of getting to acceptance. We will get to acceptance, hopefully. But I truly think that with that acceptance will come the knowledge that more of the silent majority needs to wake up and be counted!
