Nortel Networks, Datang in Strategic Cooperation to Provide CDMA Solutions in China

BEIJING - Nortel Networks* [NSYE/TSE: NT] and Datang, one of China's leading local telecommunications equipment vendors, announced the signing of a
long-term strategic cooperation agreement intended to accelerate the availability of advanced Wireless Internet solutions in China.

Under terms of the strategic cooperation agreement, Nortel Networks and Datang will work together to promote CDMA (code division multiple access)
products. Moving forward, the companies plan to work together to evolve Datang's CDMA products to cdma2000*.

"The signing of this agreement marks the beginning of an all-round, mutually beneficial strategic association with Nortel Networks,'' said Zhou Huan, president,
Datang. "I believe this joint effort will significantly advance the development and deployment of mobile communications and the Wireless Internet in China."

"This is a major milestone in bringing the high-performance Wireless Internet to China," said Robert Mao, president and chief executive officer, Nortel
Networks China. "By working with Datang to bring our turnkey networking solutions to China's wireless operators, we will be accelerating the growth of local
manufacturing in the country's cellular market segment as well as furthering Nortel Networks commitment to help build a world-class telecommunications
industry in China."

Nortel Networks has a leadership position in all major 2G and 3G wireless technologies, including GSM, GPRS, CDMA, 1XRTT and TDMA. BT Cellnet in the UK

working with Telstra in Australia, Nortel Networks recently completed the world's first cdma2000 1XRTT data call over a live network.

operators looking to offer next-generation Wireless Internet services. Nortel Networks has already demonstrated the fastest Wireless Internet in the world,
with wireless data transmissions at speeds more than 25 times faster than typically available today.

Nortel Networks ranks number one in next generation Wireless Internet infrastructure strategy according to Herschel Shosteck Associates (2000) and the
Yankee Group (1999).

Nortel Networks recently announced awards with an estimated aggregate value of US$525 million for new wireless networks serving up to 17 million
subscribers and paving the way for Wireless Internet and data services in Greater China. The company has won wireless network contracts in 17 of 31
provinces in China.

I have only on thing to say positive and that's at the end. The market is going down 2600 which at one time seem so remote, I couldn't think about 2600, it's almost certain now. I see no near term catalyst other then the final election decision and that's a poor one too. 20 to 30% drop in the naz looks more likely daily. We are going to get a retest here, I see it failing. There is hope. QCOM in it's five month base should serve as lesson or what to look for before you buy back in. Do not rush back in. There has been so much selling that it's going to take time to repair the damage.
