<Now with his back against the wall about to lose it all, the time is running out, he offers to play the whole counting game over to determine who the real winner is.>

You would do the same thing if you were Al Gore, wouldn't you?

If my life was online, I probably would. If a mere job was online, (especially where integrity and respect are very improtant part of the job description), I would play by the rules. BTW, wasn't "playing by the rules" a campaign theme of Clinton/Gore in 92?

So, you are scared that Bush has to put everything online, i.e., Bush has a chance of losing the election if the count is more accurate and so he should not agree?

Accuracy is not the question. The question is a complete corruption of the system. Here is news story about a man (Democrat) caught in Palm Beach county by police with a machine that punches holes in the ballots: abcnews.go.com
Notice that this person under name Theresa LePore (Democrat) who is a Commissioner of Palm Bech county (1 of 3) who is the ultimate authority over the results there. She declined to press charges.

2nd of the 3 commissioners Carol Roberts was accused that she "poked, twisted and manipulated ballots during a Saturday hand recount of ballots from four precincts".

If you think that a process with these 2 individuals in charge will produce "accurate" results, we have a Bridge here over East River that I can offer you. The Democratic judges and Democratic Supreme court in Florida refused a request to set up uniform rules of how to interpret the questinable ballots, so it's up to these 2 jokers to decide all disputed ballots.

Gore is clearly a desperate man given that he is behind but I fail to see how one can conclude the result is "inevitable" given that this whole thing seems like such a mess.

I think Gore's options are very limited. An extremely unlikely win of overseas absentee balots, or a court decisions stating that these 2 letters present sufficient reason for extention of the deadline based on Florida law:

Palm Beach: cnn.com
Paraphrasing here: "We are so incompetent and confused here that that everytime we recount, we get a different result."

Broward: cnn.com
This one is actually funny. They state that:
1. a lot of people showed up
2. they are the 2nd largest county (gee, is that a news to them after the election?)
3. a regurgitation of 1 and 2
And now the best ones:
4C. One of the commissioners took some vacation
4D. They took Veterans' day off
4E. They had to follow a state law.

based on limited to no ability to understand legal documents, if Gore presidency rests on persuasiveness of these 2 letters, I don't think that calling his loss "inevitable" is a stretch. It will take a very creative judge to side with these counties, and overrule the decision of the Secretary of State.
