Gore slipping in the post-election polls:

"The Democratic strategy of demanding hand recounts in four heavily Democratic counties is pretty obviously a one-sided solution to the problem of reaching a fair and accurate count for the whole state," Black said. "The Republican strategy, by contrast, of declaring the counting closed is also not well received by many, but it is not as one-sided as the Democratic position."

"Because of this, Gore loses more support at this point than Bush," he continued. "Gore might well win the strategic victory, only to lose in the court of public opinion."
