nick....clinton administration can be partially blamed for higher pump prices, believe it was on his watch that fed gas taxes were increased, along with mandated regional additives (primarily in urban areas), that in itself added a few pennies. executive orders restricting exploration in what are now federal land reserves didn't help matters. failure to put strong political pressure on a non opec producer such as mexico helped maintain upward pricing pressure.

geopolitical events bear heavy on energy pricing....many fail to realize that the original opec charter regulates pricing based on currency conversion from usd to members currency......that is why the main producer, saudi arabia, who floats the rial with the usd can always stabilze prices when necessary.
