Max pain is the point where the most options expire worthless. Theory is that stocks will gravitate to this point or close to it by option expiration. Like anything else it sometimes works. I have seen it often enough on stocks that don't have unusual news that I tend to pay attention to it and even trade it.

Caused me to buy EMC the other day for a short term. I'm still holding it because I am to confused to do anything else. It's been so long since I bought something that then went up that I'm hoping it tanks so I can get back to my comfort zone of being a loser;)
