"The AT&T guys are very good at marketing" -I'm using AT&T at the moment and I respectfully disagree that "the phone" doesn't work. It's by far the best (but not good enough) provider I've been on in the D.C. suburb area (and during travels). It's in digital mode just about all the time and voice quality is ok. However, I still lack coverage, analog or digital.
Dropped calls, in my view, when it comes down to it, are more a function of the number of cells in the area than technology. I'm in the position that I can try any phone I would like, so I do and some of the other providers just hasn't built out their networks, analog or digital, (where I need it) to an acceptable standard -Verizon & Voicestream comes to mind. I had better coverage 20 years ago- in the wilderness in Sweden..
By the way, I own QCOM but have no AWE...
