TheStreet.co.uk shuts down after funding dries up

LONDON (Reuters) - TheStreet.co.uk, a British online financial newspaper
part-owned
by TheStreet.com, said on Thursday it was closing immediately due to lack
of funding.

A company spokesman told Reuters that the website had met its financial
targets and was making revenues of
about a quarter of a million pounds a month, but it had not proved enough.

In New York, The Street.com said it was planning to cut its workforce by 20
percent and record a charge. The
job cuts in the United States will affect 40 full-time employees.

The Street.com said its British operations accounted for about $9 million
(5.7 million pounds) of TheStreet.com's
consolidated new losses for the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2000. It said
that the British company was going to
run out of the money by the end of this year.

TheStreet.com also said it plans to "wind down" its joint-venture newsroom
with the New York Times by the end
of this month.

The New-York based company also said it expects to incur a one-time
charge of between $6 million and $8.5
million from discontinued operations.

Lets hope so.
