The Democrats really shot themselves in the foot this time. The Supervisor of Elections, in Palm Beach, designed a ballot that lost tens of thousands of votes for Gore. Even after it was found out, at about 8:30am, that the ballot was a major disaster, she took her time and didn't react effectively.

The Democrats could point their own finger at themselves, if they want to blame someone for their loss.

OTOH, the punch card ballot system in Florida stinks, and produces inaccurate results. Who, in their right mind, would not request a recount. That is why the "recount" law is on the books.
