Petz, Re: Apfelmännchen" - Ich kenne ein bischen Deutsch, aber "Apfelmännchen" habe ich nicht gelearnt.

Your German is quite good! "Apfelmännchen" isn't a "real" German word it's a combination of "Apfel" (apple) and "Männchen" (man). It stands for a special type of fractal. In English it has the name Mandelbrot IIRC. The German name comes from the characteristic form of the fractal which looks like an apple with a head (so "apple-man").

The benchmark renders such a fractal and the time is measured how long it takes. It stresses the FPU but doesn't need much bandwidth. So it's the ideal benchmark for the P4 to lose big time against Athlon.
