Since order cancellations [there must have been some] are not reflected in {[SEMI orders]-[SEMI shipments]}, the actual SEMI 'backlog' is lower than shown. Note that even at the last cycle low AMAT still had $900M+ backlog and AMAT sales were above $4B. But the stock price didn't see that as benign or minor.

AMAT could just live on its current backlog without new orders for a year and still have over $4B in revenues.
