That 11 million gallon figure was pretty funny. They pumped on that thing for days. Since sea water was rushing in, they could come up with any number they wanted.. my guess is over 20 million gallons of oil.. the sea water that leaked out didn't do too much harm.
Hitting the reef is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. Leaving Vadez harbour you don't have to do much other than turn left a little.. guess no left was forthcoming..lol
