It's not free, but it's cheap (ten bucks a year, as I recall). I think either you or your spouse needs to be over 50 -- not old. <g>

You can join aarp when you're 55. (it may have been lowered in recent yrs, I haven't heard though, they want more people so they may have lowered the age)
If that's old, or retired, then I'm almost there.
