Im trying to help a friend of mine with his computer.

Apparently he screwed up his BIOS so badly that the computer will not boot even to an emergency start disk.

Is there any way to fix a corrupt Flash Bios? I was thinking of buying a new motherboard and transferring all the components.

Thank you in advance.

There seems to be a decent amount of discussion here which relates to trading computer setups, multiple displays, etc.

What about the reliability aspect, how many of you have measures in place for:
- electrical power failure (UPS)
- data backup (i.e. tape or disk imaging)
- multiple / redundant high-speed internet service providers (ISP's) which use ethernet-based connections such as cable or DSL.

I am especially curious if any of you are using multiple ISP's, and what interest there may be in an affordable Linux-based internet solution which offers:
- high-availability, will automatically route to the other internet connection if one fails
- internet sharing (NAT) for all computers on the internal network
- automatic configuration of network settings (DHCP) for computers on the internal network
- firewall protects internal network from snoopy hackers
