Actually, in my case, I have NEVER driven while drunk...nor have I done anything else illegal or unethical...my mama taught me well and I have truly led a blessed life...while I respect those that have done wrong and then redirected their lives, I have zero respect for those who have hidden the truth from others...the first thing AA teaches its people about alcoholism is being able to confront the problem and admit you do have a problem...while Bush admitted to a problem, he covered up the DUI and never explained what demons he was fighting when he turned to alcohol.

I don't say this to excuse Dubya's DUI, but at the time it happened, the sentiment then present regarding DUI was nothing like it is today. Certainly this is true of Cheney's DUI violation. People did it quite a bit and it was not as fiercely frowned upon. I think MADD has done quite an excellent job at raising the consciences of people re: DUI. Unfortunately, MADD can be a real pain in the aspirin on issues about which they should shut their mouths.
