Crowe brings up a good point. How much did other sponsors pay, and who were they? I wonder if 360Networks and Global Crossing have paid Gilder any promotional fees? LoF DISCLOSURE: I am a shareholder in Level 3, Global Crossing, & 360 Networks. I am also a Gilder subscriber, and generally find his publication to be a valued source of information.

It was a "solicitation for corporate sponsorship" for a conference not a bill. I get solicitations for stuff everyday and most of it goes in the trash. Here is what Crowe wrote: "Based on these discussions, I and my staff believed and still believe that the payment was a prerequisite to my speaking at the conference. As a result I withdrew from participating in the event." (emphasis added)
