LOL. The fund mangers DON'T have to buy stocks, you ever heard of money market funds, bonds, etc, they have done better in there for the last 4 months. Eski, Talk to me in a couple of months!<g> Just have some patience; once the election is resolved, post to me and tell that the market is still going down. Then your point would be valid; right now it is meaningless. I don't notice the market falling apart. Cisco still over 50. Watch what happens just as the election nears resolution. That is the only reason the market has gone down; no doubt about it my mind. Everyone expected bad news from AMAT. Why was there not a severe selloff in that stock? Analysts have been pounding this stock lately along with Micron. Did you notice how many cautious comments and downgrades keep coming up on Micron and AMAT lately. Now we have the same concerns for PMCS, BRCM, AMCC, VTSS--these are the high PE, high growth chip stocks. The concerns have hit these stock hard; it is a little more obvious why people are avoiding these types. I had unloaded most of my positions in PMCS, BRMC, JDSU type of these stocks a while ago; will start buying them shortly. However, I would not be sell the low PE ones like MU, AMAT, Credence etc.. Also Intel looks good at these levels. Still like Cisco, MSFT. The big caps are not going to break down. Eski, I don't know how long you have been following the stock market but I remember a couple of years ago when AMAT stock price was getting killed (along with many other techs). Those that bought it then, were rewarded in a big way. Just think what could happen if a competitor to MU suddenly stopped building capacity due to various reasons; What do you think will happen to DRAM pricing? What happens when people start installing Windows2k on Pentium 4 computers? More memory will be needed. Yes, just like Oil prices, demand will outstrip supply causing DRAM price to turn up and stocks like Micron will rocket. Higher borrowing costs in some countries might keep the competition from being able to expand. Just think why is MU not tanking given the parade of downgrades. These are having no effects on the stock price. You know what follows downgrades....YUP...they start upgrading when conditions improve. If conditions remain the same, well the stock is at reasonable prices anyways!! I will be buying Micron again tomorrow. These downgrades by analysts are part of the game. Remember this is the first day of declines for the semis after 3 days in a row of gains. I bet they rally even if the Nasdaq is flat tomorrow. Too much negativity is being priced in. BTW-- I will acknowledge that the higher PE stocks are a bit more risky unless they have some dominant industry positions.
