Carl, I have a plan to make the present system a resounding success. Get the Pres and candidates together in DC. Get all of the Senator's and Congressmen in attendance for the big event. Invite all of the lobbyist's and anyone else who has had a hand in creating this wonderful day to be in attendance also. Then allow the USS George Washington SSBN-598 to launch it's outdated Nuclear weapons and turn the whole damn place into a parking lot for the K-Mart in Richmond, he he;) I expect the Secret Service to come knocking at any time.
