GORE 2000 ANNOUNCES FLORIDA STEERING COMMITTEE
NASHVILLE, TN - January 17 - Al Gore and Bob Butterworth, Attorney General and Chair of Gore 2000 in the Sunshine state, today announced the support of leaders from across Florida and the formation of Floridians for Gore. Gore and Butterworth named the following Members of Congress as Honorary Co-Chairs of the Florida committee: Jim Davis, Robert Wexler, Carrie Meek, Corrine Brown, Karen Thurman, Peter Deutsch, and Alcee Hastings. Alex Penelas, Mayor of Miami-Dade, leads a list distinguished list of campaign Co-Chairs.
Lois Frankel, State House Majority Leader, Marilyn P. Lenard, President of the Florida AFL-CIO, Buddy Dyer, State Senator, and other notable elected officials and leaders were named as Co-Chairs of Floridians for Gore. Mitchell Berger was named as Senior Advisor to the Florida campaign.
"Al Gore is the only choice to lead America," Bob Butterworth. "Because of his leadership, Florida, and America, have enjoyed unprecedented economic prosperity. Al Gore's vision to improve education, expand health coverage and preserve Social Security and Medicare will keep this country strong in the new millennium."

"The Vice President will provide proven leadership based on his experience to protect the lives of Florida's working families," said Bob Henriquez, State Representative from Tampa. "I believe Al Gore is the best hope for our country to continue and build upon this period of prosperity and optimism."
"Al Gore possesses the leadership and strength of character necessary to become the next President of the United States," said Alex Penelas, Mayor of Miami-Dade. "His concern for the needs of all Floridians, including appropriate health care, quality education, and urban revitalization, has clearly been evident over the past eight years."

Karl Koch is to serve as the Chair of the Floridians for Gore Executive Committee. Dozens of Democrats have joined the campaign's Executive Committee (a list of names is scheduled for release in the coming week).
