This election certainly elevates the question as to whether the U.S.A. is truly "one nation, under God," or whether we would be better off as a loose confederation of, say, 2-3-4-5 different geographical-political entities.

Heck, I read a while back of an effort to divide California into three different states: south, central and north.

One could make a case that the U.S.A. is indeed an imperialistic empire -- not on the order of the former Soviet Union -- but perhaps on the order of China/Tibet. Too big, too diverse, too divided to govern effectively as one country anymore.
