Last night’s 2-hour power shutdown in the Hsinchu-based science park was expected to trigger a loss of NT$300mn among the IC manufacturers including TSMC (2330), UMC (2303), Winbond (2344), Macronix (2337), Powerchip (5346) and ProMos (5387) and Acer Display (2409). The power shutdown was triggered by ribbon twisted in the high voltage wires.

Taiwan shares closed down 3.4% Saturday, the seventh consecutive daily decline, as investors continued to sell across the board, amid doubts about future earnings at electronic companies, lingering concerns over a credit crunch in old-economy companies and rising bad loans at banks, said analysts and traders.
