This morning CMNT announced that they are planning to buy Inrange for $190mm beginning with an arranged purchase of 91% of the shares held by SPX (not sure about that last name). Apparently no one still posts here and perhaps no one even keeps the board bookmarked. Yet CMNT has remained one of my oldest and favorite technology stocks and I've lived through many scares of the sort someone is feeling today. Down 28% on this news followed by a hurriedly called conference call this morning which went off without a hitch that I heard?

It looks to me like investors simply don't have confidence in Messieurs Hudson and Barnum abilities. I don't have all that much confidence myself. And yet I continue to believe that management is honest and that the board is likely dominant over the president and CFO since they were actively engaged in management for a while and hired these two guys well after they were used to working with each other.

In other words, I don't find anything to have changed all that much with this announcement and so bought another 16% of my holdings at $5.20 today. Many times over the past 15 years I've been surprised by a sudden crash in the price of CMNT. Most often I could not see what had spooked everyone else and so bought. Of course I am responding to a message from 2000 which seems to expect EPS of 80 cents for 2001. CMNT didn't earn it and suffered a number of price drops in letting me know they weren't going to.

Also wanted to see whether it was even possible to post to this old board. Best regards, Lance
