The network-based solution will require upgrades at cell sites and switches, but no upgrades are required for wireless handsets

Cellpoint's solution, comprised of a software overlay, requires no hardware upgrades and works with any GSM phone currently on the market without any hardware add-ons. It is so much simpler to install, upgrade, and maintain than the other network solutions

All I know is we’re proceeding as fast as we can," says Andrew Clegg, manager of strategic technology at Cingular Wireless. "I wish we had had more time. The technologies have not had time to perfect themselves."

Cellpoint's solution has been tested commercially for about three years and France Telecom has been using it since the summer. Someone ought to introduce Andrew Clegg to Cellpoint.
