What a crock this whole market is. No liquidity so the people who are short and want to move the big caps down two strikes are free to do it. I'm just disgusted.

Something told me to sell into that pop this morning and now I'm glad I did. Pathetic.

Obviously they want INTC at 40, CSCO 50, ADI 55, SUNW 85. I mean how transparent is this.

I know it's amazing. I won't tell you what my husband called those states in red (Hi Colonel!). Think about what's happened with the economies of the big cities, of New England, during Clinton's administration, and why those voters would want a continuation of what they perceived to be a pretty successful 8 years.

Dang, the Bush rally was short-lived. Hmmmm

Clinton appealed to both groups - just enough.
It's true the states rights vs. people rights are largely urban vs. rural. The only reason the GOP can win is this electoral college law which gives small rural states a little more clout. This is the great divide in this country. Notice Gore still ahead in the popular vote even though if Florida falls he loses. Gore's DC smartness and sophistication actually played against him this election. Bush beat him for the good ole white boy swing voters. Clinton however really knows how to preach to the rural crowd. He sounds exactly like a Methodist minister and was able to take the Mississippi River states giving him the clear edge. Except for Iowa Gore could not take those states and even lost Tennesse. This could cost him the election.

OT - Rande - you are just a few days behind - LOL - I think I beat you to this one:

Message 14817687

But no problem - your post reiterates just what I was saying - pretty amazing the divide between major urban centers and the rest of the country. I have never seen things broken down like this before - so I am not sure if its a new phenomenon or not. But I suspect the divide won't close anytime soon, for a variety of reasons.

Rande/Maverick, I can't speak for the nation, but I can speak for SC and MA as I have lived in both states.

As I looked at your county-by-county map, I noticed that the areas colored in blue are heavily populated by minorities, here in SC. Most of the blue areas you noticed were the poorer counties where some share cropping still exists today. The capital, Columbia is basically a Democratic town. Our mayor and governor are Democrats. However, the Democrats do cross over and vote for Strom Thurmond every chance they get.

MA is a horse of a different color. Them people ain't right. (As we say here in the South.) I think it has something to do with the water. If you've ever taken a swim in the Boston Hah-bah, (they don't use the letter R, I think they sold it to Texas), you'd understand. Interestingly, I think their current governor is Republican. See what I mean? <VBG>
