"they, like most of the rest of the federal government, tend to lag a year or two behind the rest of the world when it comes to implementing new technologies. It's that whole low-bidder thing they have going on. They get a much better deal on high-end Pentium II's then on low-end Pentium III's etc."

c'mon Bob. this sounds like voters in PalmBeach. you don't really believe this do you? a terabyte is a terabyte. one net terabyte costs 4X as much as the other net terabyte. you have a degree; how can the navy or marines justify spending 4X based principally on a service agreement? this isn't PII vs. PIII. the agreement goes into affect with the delivery of PIVs.

the speed and backup capabilities are comparable; little variance. installation costs and service are left.

the US Navy and Marines combined would rank as the world's fifth highest most active employer. this is not 'high end' to you? EMC would call this 'low end' because they didn't get the contract they bid on.

a Dell's terabyte vs. an EMC terabyte amounts to bubblegum vs. wrigleys. one is wrapped differently.
