As I recall, the talking heads were mostly military flacks of various sorts. The idea that Bush & co. were spending all their time watching CNN to figure out what to do next is silly. I'd guess that the primary consideration in not taking out Sadam is that they would have had to replace him with something, or be stuck in the occupation business. "Liberal media"? Maybe you could get Drudge to pick up on that one, though I doubt it.
