the show Fri night was awesome!! Both bands were quartets and there was a bit of sampling, which I hate, but I"m willing to overlook these roads when the real deal is present in abundance. It would have been a deal at twice the cost per band. Scofield ripped it up...I mean I was dizzy at points. Total improv within a framework of the tune. It was really fantastic. He had a young band and he really tested them and tried to catch them off guard. The wry smile was present when he thought he'd succeeded Vernon Reid was equally impressive. He went on these rips where he was just winding the ax for like 7 minutes....relentless! He has a really laidback stage presence. Super cool dude. Unfortunately..and this happens often..the guy I took was more interested in hearing some sort of POP tunes I think. At first he was impressed then he decided that there weren't really any tunes and everything sounded the same. I tried to explain to him what was happening but it was a waste of time as he just concluded with "It's not my bag".. The low point was when he proclaimed that his band was as good as these guys...LOL!!!!! I told him to please repeat that to his guitarist and let me know his response<g> I woke up still feeling the night's killer jams and wished I could do it again on Saturday.. WOWser!! <--highest rating The problem with this type of show is that nothing will live up to it for the next 6 months...a good problem I suppose. kd Lang on Monday (If I can get tix)...!Te gusto mucho!
