Breaking news: Leon County circuit Judge Terry Lewis has just rejected a court petition by Vice President Al Gore to force Florida to accept hand recounted votes. This ruling clears the way for the Florida Division of Elections to certify the final vote tally tomorrow. That's great news -- but the post-election battle is not over yet. "Hand counting" of ballots is still going on at this very minute in Palm Beach and Broward counties. If the ruling by Judge Lewis stands, Florida's Division of Elections can throw out these "hand counts." But the Gore legal team is appealing the decision today and it's very likely that the Florida Supreme Court will be hearing the case shortly. The Florida Supreme Court is comprised of six Democrats and 1 independent, and they've already ruled in Gore's favor to allow the "hand counting" of ballots earlier this week. Yes, this situation is still a mess. That's why it's still important for us to be mobilizing in favor of fair election practices and integrity in the ballot counting process. The votes were counted on election day -- and George W. Bush won Florida. The votes were recounted in the days that followed -- and George W. Bush won Florida. Now the Democrats have hand picked a couple of counties where they think they can manufacture enough votes to make up the difference through "hand counting" of ballots. What's worse is they're using ballot examining techniques that amount to mind reading to determine whether or not voters meant to vote for Al Gore. In any case, I do not disagree that the Electoral College could be reviewed. I don't have a problem with that at all. Interestingly, I have some sympathy for the Midwestern farmers, each of which feeds 130 Americans and 30 people outside this country. My objection has always been that to challenge the Constitution for the purpose of overturning a legally conducted election is dishonorable, pollutes the very law that Americans live by, and could easily result in branding the culprit and his advisors as criminals. There is a better way. Act within the law and change the law. That's what makes the United States different than anywhere else on your planet. I hope that does not sound like rhetoric. <G>

*The fact that it was so damn close will eat his insides every day for the rest of his life.* I have to agree with you... esp since I foresee him getting ousted by Hillary in the next Dem prez primary if he's not elected NOW... I believe that's why he's scrambling like hell to win at all cost... disregarding all repercussions to everything he wants people to believe he stands for.

When Gore chief liar, oh I mean propaganda chief, oh I mean chief lawyer spokes person.. Paraphrasing. Christopher said that the Directed and authorized recount is continuing. The wording of the court of the decision was that the count allowed was not prohibited. Mr. Christopher then spoke and said he was a lawyer and not a politician. As a lawyer he then questioned the legitimacy of Mr. Bush as the President elect. Bill Clinton is also a lawyer. So for the man who called Bill the best that ever was, the fact that his insides get eaten away every day is fiting.
