Thanks for the response, pcstel - even if it's not what I wanted to hear.

If I understand you correctly, I can probably conclude that G* in remote areas will be relegated to the single pay phone or single user who needs it - but once demand reaches village proportions there are cheaper ways to provide village wide service. Certainly narrows that niche.
