My Sense Is That The Major Theme Was Distribution

I think option expiration played a part but many of the Nasdung trading stocks, as well as the QQQ were well below max. pain and did not make much movement towards that point.

The major activity I saw was ramping the market with the futures and once the stocks started to go up large blocks started showing up on the ask.

This process repeated over and over created the chopping.

It would be interesting to look at a graph of $PREM and the volume for key stocks. Just observing $PREM and the LII for JNPR, BRCM, SUNW, and SEBL the pattern seemed clear and consistent.

I checked Max. Pain for about 25 stocks that I trade from time to time and only found one that was close. The fact that distribution was clearly more important than minimizing the not insignificant value of expiring options, I would have to speculate that we are very close to a major "price correction".
