It's best to run while you're hot, not to cover unless VRTS is dumb enough not to check which I doubt.

He was in charge of a lot of things at ORCL, actually, but my take from what I've heard and read (which means I don't know anything substantive) is that he wasn't the crown prince (no one is, apparently). Also, from what I have read, Bloom is considered to be first class at carrying out plans, but not a visionary -- if I were on the board of ORCL and looking to replace Larry in 5-10 years, I would worry about choosing someone who wasn't a visionary. And finally, Larry has a history of falling out of love with his executives, so even if I was being told "you're my successor", I wouldn't be sure that several years from now I'd get the job. So I really think that it's natural that he would take a CEO spot someplace else.

I'm sure that ORCL would have rather kept Bloom, and I expect the stock to tank since anything makes that happen lately, but 6 months from now it probably won't matter.
