Grant vs Sanders in January
By Scott Shaffer

Michael Grant's return to the ring has been postponed until January 13, when he will face Corrie Sanders of South Africa. The agreement to fight Sanders was reached today, according to Grant's advisor, Craig Hamilton. Grant was scheduled to face Sedreck Fields on November 30, but that fight is now off. Because Sanders is left-handed, Grant and his trainer, Don Turner, concur that Grant would be better served by preparing exclusively for a southpaw opponent with no intervening bouts. "Michael regrets withdrawing from the Sedreck Fields fight at this time, but he understandably wants to concentrate fully on Corrie Sanders so that he can put forth his best effort on January 13th," said Hamilton.

The location of the fight has not yet been determined, but it is known that the card will also feature Hasim Rahman against Danell Nicholson in an IBF elimination bout to determine that organization's mandatory contender. The undercard may also feature Oleg Maskaev and Gerald Nobles. The fight presents both Grant and Sanders with an opportunity to get back in the win column following stoppages. Sanders suffered a technical knockout to Rahman in a fight back in May that left him contemplating retirement, while Grant has not fought since he was knocked out in the second round of his heavyweight title fight against Lennox Lewis.
