Your complaint was that one person or small group of persons was limiting access to areas supposedly owned by all members of the U.S. My point is, when you have a fragile system, sometimes it makes sense to limit access to that system. It only takes one or a few members of said democracy to damage it. As citizens, we all own our nuclear weapons in the U.S. Do you want all of us to have our finger on their deployment?

As for chances of any protection of resources having a better chance under democracy; I don't know if I agree that democracy is even the deciding factor. I think, whatever the members of a democracy may intend, capitalism/materialism dictate the access to and use of resources.
