I believe that there was an emergency appeal of Judge Lewis' order sustaining Sec. Harris' exercise of discretion.

Flotsam and Jetsam, some new lines and litter tray liners:

Let's see, best lines of the evening:

There's a new drug on the market in Palm Beach, Vote-agra, for the relief of Electile Dysfunction.

Mayor Daley used to say vote early and vote often, now his son is going to have to tell 'em to vote for the same candidate both times.

The Shrub folks were demonstating in Palm Beach County today with new placards: Sore Loserman 2000

A Canadian author, Sparkle Hayter (hey, you can't make this stuff up) was just on the Diplomat's View show on CNN. Her view of who might take Florida? "Well, Gore is the better man, but Bush is the better thief." The host immediately whacked her up side the head for telling the truth.

Bill Maher, of Politically Incorrect did a wonderful mimicry of "The Grinch that Stole the Election". I'll have to see if I can find it on the Net. It was hilarious, and a good reason for me to learn to take dictation. Anybody here got the text?

And finally, finally, after endless days, I've come to find out the proximate cause of pregnant chads. The very smart Paulette Wimberley, who will be a Democratic elector in Tallahassee on Dec. 18 if the creeks don't rise, has represented her black district in Miami for years. She's also been an elections official for over 2 decades. She explained that the chad trays in the Votomatic machines are too small for large precincts. Thus, by 3 PM or so, unless the harried and harrassed election workers empty the trays, (and they're rarely educated to do so) the damn things fill up with chads and the late voters are trying to push the stylus through a solid pile of chad debris. Who knew that the American election and the fate of the free world could rest on a manufacturer's decision two decades age to save two cents per machine by saving on the size of the damn tray? This is silly beyond comprehension. God Bless America, Land of Brave, Home of the Free, and a Sanctuary for Moronic Beancounters.

I haven't seen this posted on the thread...Republicans [potentially] ignoring the State Supreme Court....cool. I'll bet that will less popular than Newt shutting down government operations. Ever onward! I wonder whether the State Legislature ignoring the State Supreme Court is a US Constitutional issue...I never even thought about that potential developing!

TALLAHASSEE, Nov. 17–Republicans in charge of the Florida legislature are preparing a legal strategy to appoint the state's 25 electors themselves if the Florida Supreme Court fails to rule on the matter promptly.

"We're going to potentially ignore the state Supreme Court," Tom Feeney, a Republican lawyer who will take over as House speaker on Tuesday, said in an interview today. "It is the state legislature that determines the method of selecting electors. . . . The question is whether or not the Supreme Court of Florida has any role whatsoever. If they try to interfere with our responsibilities, then we still have to fulfill them."
