This election cannot rest on a technicality, but on the will of the lawyers.

Flapjack, as you can see no one will be happy whichever way it goes. You will see it as improper by some reason and so will the other side. Affidavits abound already (I hear) that in 2-1 votes on the election boards disputed votes are given to Gore. Hence (and I voted Nader but prefer Bush over Gore) conservatives will see the "election" as stolen because so much time has lapsed after initial counts favored Bush. The people have lost this election because of politics. But people are so politicized they don't care. They just want their side to advance.

flapjack, you are right about the lawyers. They are sending them down by the planeload. There are at least a couple hundred working on this. Insane. The one's who are hungrier, better connected (political bias), and more willing to do "whatever it takes to win" will probably prevail but at a great cost to our country.

One one side we have GOP charges that the Democrats are stealing this election by somehow punching out holes in cards when no one is looking. These charges, to me, are baseless, because of the large number of people who are perusing the ballots.

The votes were stolen by punching out holes BETWEEN the vote and the FIRST count, creating 19,000 double punched ballots for president. The manual recount is irrelevant except for the very subjective interpretation involved.
