The manufacturers of the machines believe it. Quotes from the article in today's NYT I posted earlier: "Ultimately, industry official said, the most precise way to count ballots is by hand." "In close races, manual recounts are the way the machine's imperfections are resolved." "A manual recount can be extremely accurate."

"Election officials in several states said a manual recount was a simple and reliable way to correct mistakes in the computerized counts." "The Los Angeles County registrar-recorder said it had not been hard to settle disputed elections through manual recounts." "[and] She said she was not aware of any manual recounts in California that had led to court challenges." "Manual recounts are part of the process and they have always been accepted as part of the process."

And George W. Bush signed legislation in his capacity as Governor of Texas confirming his belief in the superiority of a hand count in resolving very close calls, given the statistical error rate of the machines.

And you remain incredulous that anyone could think hand counts are more accurate than machine counts?

You know more than the machine manufacturers?

You know more than the states that have used them, and gone to hand counting when the vote was too close for the machine's margin of error?

Than Texas Governor George W. Bush?

The only thing I object to is the unfairness of having the Democrats doing all the counting! They really ought to have some Republicans present at the recounts, too. That just burns me up.
