Do you remember the infamous line uttered by Bush Senior that went like this "watch my lips, no new taxes", well I don't watch their lips anymore since then, I watch the results. In the past 20 years we have has 12 years of republicans and 8 years of democrats in the white house. Surely your not that misinformed nor easily fooled. The President can only sign or veto bills sent to him by the Senate via Congress. The Democratic controlled House and Senate would never hand Bush a bill that did not include a tax increase. It's a good thing some of us still have a memory. BTW, I do give credit to Clinton for sticking to a deficit reduction plan. It sent a lot of his tax and spend friends into a tizzy. Of course it was offset by a huge tax increase. Never in the history of this republic have the citizens been subject to a greater % of tax (at all levels) to income. Nor have businesses been more regulated or subject to lawsuits. Take it from someone who knows. It's hardly worth it anymore. When taxation, regulation, and litigation choke off the entrepenural spirit in this country, we'll go down the toilet fast. I think it's headed that way.

If you want to do simplistic analysis go ahead. The Great Society got us spending. Mr Reagan brought about the early distruction of the USSR and had America not been as strong at the time of this demise then would the old men of ww II who ran the USSR adopted a Stalin Solution for harmony at home. Star Wars made the USSR give up. America had amazing stuff that worked and who was to say the the magic stuff did not work.. Deep concept. Bush decided for the taxes and one could question him on it. But he was honest and tried to do what he believed in. He did not destroy the integrity of the Office like Bill. Also when Bill took over the Economy was already mended and poised to accel. Computers and the internet created mind boggling productivity and Bill moved to a Republican Centist perspective and worked with Newt to lay the foundation for the current good time. The Ms Trip came along and castrated Bill and froze all Government for 12 to 18 months and this lead to another productivity increase as dumb washington regulations stopped changing and the cost of this became predictable. So now, Gore might be able to screw it up and Bush will not screw it up and his proposals make more sense. Bush is honest and a deal maker and Gore just wants to rip out some-ones lungs.
