CatLady,

Are you really that stupid? I thought so...

Cheers.

Catlady, everybody has their own preference. Some people think that CDs are the bee's knees. Then there are IOMega fans, who have had their butts saved inumerable times by the convenience of a Zip disk (working on that big project evenings at home) - they will buy a product with that awful Clik! drive. Other people will prefer hard disks or solid state.

This is going to be an extremally fragmented market.

Somebody else commented on this the other day, but it bears repeating. I was at Fry's the other day, and I was astounded by the number of different players available. Geez, how can you choose? AND IT IS EARLY IN THE GAME.

It is going to be very difficult to get any significant market share. You are going to have to have a well-known brand name, because given the confusion, I tink that people will go two ways: (a) go with a known brand name, assuing that you'll at least get an "OK" product (b) just go with the cheapest one.

I think the brand names come out ahead. Who wants to be in the position of having low profit margins, and relying on random selection by the consumer? (Do I get the $79.95 one with the fast forward, or the $79.90 one with the cool velcro strap?)
