"$1 MILLION AN HOUR

Jacoby estimates Verizon is spending roughly $1 million an hour to upgrade its networks, a level the smaller CLECs just can't keep up with. And with telecom technology racing along, there's no end in sight to the industry arms race.

"This is an extremely capital intensive industry; they haven't spent nearly enough," said Jacoby. "You have to be able to refresh your network every three to four years."

...is why the contiuous cap-ex cautions, and why is the network infrastructure guys keep getting thrashed?

In addition to this article, on the QCOM thread, for example, we see all kinds of stories about buildout in China, and now India, (whether it goes to QCOM or someone else), and everyone is expecting IP telephony is going to replace circuit switching in the next 5 to 10 years.

Oh, well. I can't be a bear, so I'll just wait it out.

Regards,
Tom
