Don't forget the big one, the Reagan-instigated S+L Debacle costing us about a trillion bucks including 20 years of interest.

Julie,

Gotta defend my man Reagan as he no longer can defend himself.

The large number of indictments is meaningless, as you know it's easy to indict someone and law has been an extension of politics for too long. But I will grant you that Reagan had some unethical morons working for him, and many of the scandals were indefensible. Unfortunately, politics tends to attract unethical morons in high percentages in both parties. However, Reagan was not a pathological liar, he didn't send aides out to attack people, he took responsibility for his actions, and he never embarrassed the Office.

To me, the first prerequisite of a good leader is integrity. If you don't have that, everything else is just window dressing. I know plenty of Democrats who can't understand the dislike many harbor for Clinton. Speaking for myself, it's the simple fact that he obviously puts his own interests above everything else. A man who is willing to tell bald faced lies with passion, to trash innocent women to save his own ass, to bomb aspirin factories to distract attention and to only take responsibility when faced with DNA evidence, is not someone I want serving as a leader.

Democrats like to site the good economy as evidence of what a great President Clinton is, but I never thought that the economy was the measure of the President. He is supposed to inspire and set an example for the nation to follow. The example Clinton has set is one of winning is everything, placing blame is more important than taking responsibility, and the ends justifies the means. Just the kind of behavior we are seeing in Florida now.

Finally, I am not a big Bush fan, I would have much preferred McCain, but I don't question W's integrity, and that's good enough for me. In my opinion this country needs some new leadership, not to reform tort laws or lower taxes (though that would be nice), but to usher in an era of responsibility that is badly needed.

I'll get off my soapbox now.
