Windsock - Re: "This means that AMD has at least 2 MP systems running. The one that has been running in the lab since July 1999, and the one demoed at Microprocessor Forum. "

Unless - the lab machine was carted out for the other dog and "horsey" show.

Simple fact - even if AMD did somehow manage to get that 760 MP chip debugged ny mid 2001, it will take any serious OEM the better part of a year to perform system-level verification on an AMD SMP system, running hundreds of plug-in boards for validation (NICs, etc., under thousands of applications, under many operating systems.

All the while, Intel will be introducing new SMP offerings with faster XEONS with REAL 2 MegaByte L2 caches - the kind that AMD cannot make - followed by Foster versions of the XEON server chips - and in conjunction with ServerWorks chip sets - which have an excellent track record for SMP support.

AMD is not even at ground zero in the SMP game.
