You neglect to mention the part about when he was missing from service. And tiger didn't demean the military.

Flying in jets is dangerous and indeed posed a real possibility of millitary service in dangerous situations. I would also suspect that pilots as a percentage have one of the highest fatality rates of all occupations in the Military.
