Dan, thank you for your thoughtful response. While I'll have to keep looking for an explanation, it's comforting to read that you appreciate the question. Your response to the right wing threat to freedom is to suggest that the threat is confined to a very small element. Perhaps, but they sure seem strong to me. Conversely, I'm not intimidated by the threat from the left. I'm no fonder of Socialism than you are, but we've gone as far as we're going to in that direction, watched it fail, and swung back. What's left of the left, left wing is to effete to bother me much. Until the freedom you're expecting blossoms, I'll make do with gridlock. Karen
