Today they are obsolete because they thrive on mediocrity and are intolerant of the ambitious individual. True story, a friend of mine came to me, conflicted because the county (taxpayer funded) hospital was due to go on strike. He was wondering whether or not his primary obligation was to his union or the welfare of the patients his facility serves. I came down squarely on the side of the patients, as did he. Needless to say, the next day he was villified for crossing the picket line by his CO-workers. This was reconciled by the patients he helped and whose lives he may have saved. The irony is this taxpayer funded facility treats primarily the poor and indigent the Dems claim to be the champions of.
