I keep asking myself why this bothers me so much,
Perhaps it bothers you because you do not supplaiment your memories with the historical records. Nothing unusual is happening, the recounts happen all the time, close national elections happen every generation or two, and long protracted resolutions happen a couple times a century. Not everything worth knowing is on TV.
